Welcome to Golate.
Principal and owner Hywel Samuel qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 1978.The original St Mary St Practice, located in Cardiff City Centre was established over 40 years ago. Hywel has been involved in the vocational training programme as a VT trainer for over 20 years ensuring ethical and professional treatment at all times.
Golate Dental was established in 2020 and serves NHS and Private patients in state-of-the-art surroundings. Hywel divides his time between Golate and his Loudon Square Practice which he opened in 2013. A fluent Welsh speaker Hywel is a huge sports fan especially rugby!
BDS 2011 (Wales) – GDC 210338
Rachel graduated from Cardiff University in 2011. She started working with Hywel Samuel & Associate from 2014. Rachel enjoys all aspects of dentistry and tries to make patients feel at ease. Rachel has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and has completed the Smilefast course, which enables her to give patients an instant composite smile makeover. Rachel is also starting her diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry to further expand her skills in dentistry.
In her spare time, she enjoys mountain biking, swimming, and travelling.
BDS (Wales) 2014 – GDC 251394
Leah qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 2014 and joined the practice in 2016.
Leah previously worked in the restorative department at the Heath Hospital where she gained experience in complex dental treatments. She has also worked with the community dental service gaining experience in treating children and vulnerable patients.
Leah is a fluent Welsh speaker originally from West Wales.
In her spare time, she enjoys baking, going to the gym and travelling.
BDS 2014 (Bristol) – GDC 251681
Emily graduated with a distinction from the University of Bristol in 2014. After graduating, she moved back home to Cardiff and joined Hywel Samuel and Associates.
Emily enjoys providing minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry for patients, mainly composite bonding to enhance a patient’s natural smile. Emily will shortly be completing a course in London to provide patients with Smile Fast composite veneers.
She is also trained in facial aesthetic treatments and provides anti-wrinkle injections and PCA skin chemical peels. PCA skin peels are intended to reduce signs of acne, hyperpigmentation, and aging by exfoliating dead skin cells and revealing a new layer of skin underneath.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys running.
BDS 2019 (Manchester) – GDC 283569
Sioned qualified from Manchester Dental School in 2019.
Sioned enjoys all aspects of dentistry and aims to deliver high quality patient focused care. Sioned has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and is certified in providing Invisalign braces. She has also attended Dr Monik’s Totally Cosmetic course in composite bonding. Sioned is also undertaking a postgraduate diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry to further expand her knowledge and skills.
In her spare time, she enjoys socialising with friends, travelling and spending time with her family.
Sioned is also a fluent Welsh speaker.
BDS (Sheffield) 2020 – GDC 289947
Rhiannon qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2020 and joined the practice in 2022.
Rhiannon enjoys working to deliver high quality dentistry with a strong patient focus and her approachable style.
She provides a range of general and cosmetic treatments in both English and Welsh. Outside of work, Rhiannon enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and family – particularly her chocolate Labrador, Bella!
She also enjoys horse riding and travelling, having spent a summer volunteering as a dentist in Vietnam and Thailand.
BDS 2019 (Man) Pg Dip, Pg Cert, GDC 283571
Michael graduated with honours in Dentistry from the University of Manchester in 2019 and began his career in the North West before moving to South Wales.
He enjoys creating a relaxed and positive experience for every patient, making visits as comfortable as possible. To provide the best care, he has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry and a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Implant Dentistry.
His special interests include dental implants, as well as helping patients improve their smiles with minimally invasive composite bonding, clear aligners, and cosmetic fixed braces. Outside of practice, he loves traveling and keeping active through the gym, surfing, running, and taking part in car track days.
